Where to Stay at Disney World on a Budget

One of the biggest decisions (and expenses) when planning a Disney trip is where to stay.
If your goal is to save money without adding stress, staying at a Disney value resort is honestly one of the best decisions you can make.
We stayed at Disney’s Pop Century Value Resort, and I would absolutely do it again.

Here’s why it worked so well for us:
- Free transportation to all Disney parks (shuttle/skyliner)
- Early entry access (30 minutes before the general public)
- A fun, themed environment that still feels like part of the Disney experience, with pools and arcades for some Disney break fun and relaxation
That early entry alone made a huge difference! We were able to get on some of the most popular rides — like Avatar and TRON — in about 30–40 minutes.

Then there’s not having to worry about driving, parking, or navigating traffic. Plus, after a full day in the park, you will be tired, and the last thing you will want to do is drive back to your home away from home. This alone removed a level of stress I didn’t even want to manage.
If you’re debating between staying on or off property, think about what matters more to you: lowest cost or overall ease. For us, the convenience was worth it.
If cost is a concern, I highly recommend the Disney Value Resorts for on property stays.
How to Save Money on Food at Disney World

Food at Disney can add up quickly — but this is one of the easiest areas to save money without feeling like you’re missing out.
Here’s what worked really well for us:
Share meals (this is a game-changer)
We often ordered:
- two kids’ meals
or - one kids’ meal + one adult meal
…and split everything between the three of us.
The portions were more than enough, and the kids’ meals are usually about half the price of adult meals. If someone in your family does not like the meal, you are able to share it with others without paying for two or more full adult meals.
And yes — you don’t have to be a kid to order from the kids’ menu.
Bring Your Own Snacks

Disney World allows its guests to bring their own snacks into the parks. This is a wonderful way to save even more money. I find this valuable if you have little ones who can sometimes be picky eaters.
Water Bottle Tips
Water is available and free in all Disney parks. We brought our own owala water bottles and found this to be absolutely perfect.
I know some people like to bring the collapsible water bottles. But friend, it is HOT at the Disney parks, and the last thing I wanted was to drink warm water.
We filled our water bottles with ice and water from our Disney value resort before heading to the parks each morning. Game changer! Our ice lasted us at least half the day, and then we just refilled with ice at any quick-service restaurant. There are plenty of water refill stations throughout each park. This is the best way to save money on drinks and stay hydrated.
Grocery Delivery (Optional)
If grabbing breakfast at your Disney resort every morning isn’t your thing—or you’re simply looking to save money on snacks and drinks while in the parks—grocery delivery can be a game changer. You can have groceries delivered directly to Bell Services at your Disney resort for easy pickup when you arrive.
Even the value resorts include a mini-refrigerator and coffee maker, making it easy to store quick breakfast items, drinks, and grab-and-go snacks for your park days.
Some popular grocery delivery options include:
- Amazon Fresh
- Instacart
- Walmart
- Garden Grocer
Disney Stress-Free Tip
Get the Disney app on your phone, and you can pre-order your food at many of the quick-meal dining options at every Disney park. This saved us so much time vs. waiting in line to order and for our food to be ready.
Free Things to Do at Disney World (Don’t Skip These)

Well, you may feel like you’re just throwing money out of your pocket at every angle, but take advantage of the spectacular shows and entertainment offered by each Disney park – FREE!
They have parades, stage shows, character meet-and-greets (great for the littles + those Disney adults), and interactive experiences. Disney ensures that there are plenty of ways to enjoy the magic without always opening your wallet.
You can plan your day around these free entertainment experiences, while adding fun and value to your trip!
How to Find the Best Disney World Deals and Discounts

Disney frequently advertises dates or periods throughout the year where you can save on lodging, tickets, meal plans (if that’s your thing), or a combination of these. Our Disney deal saved me money on lodging and free access to a water park on the day of our arrival. I recommend looking online for deals and speaking to a Disney travel agent prior to booking. Travel agents usually have insight into deals you may not be aware of and it leaves you enjoying a stress-free Disney itinerary you can do over and over again (if you so choose to).
FAQs
Q: How can I save the most money at Disney World? Focus on the biggest expenses for your trip: lodging, food, and park tickets. Stay at a value resort, bring your own snacks and water, and avoid unnecessary add-ons. Planning ahead and setting a daily budget can make a huge difference.
Q: What is the cheapest way to go to Disney World? The cheapest way to visit Walt Disney World is to travel during off-peak seasons. Think about visiting late January–early February, late August–September, stay at a value resort like Disney’s Pop Century Resort, and skip the extras like the table-service dining plans or park hopper add-ons. Keeping your trip simple is the best way to stay on budget.
Q: Is staying on Disney property worth it? If you value convenience and time savings, then absolutely yes. Additionally, staying on Walt Disney World property is worth it for the perks – like free transportation and early park entry, making your trip smoother and less stressful. But if your main goal is saving as much money as possible, off-site options may be cheaper—but less convenient.
If you’re planning your own Disney trip, I hope this helps you see that it is possible to do it without overspending. Start with your budget, plan ahead, and you can have that magical experience without the financial stress.
