When Adventure is Rest: The Mind & Body Experience

adventure is rest

In today’s busy world, packed schedules, kids’ activities and everything in between, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed and stretched past your own limits. Rest is needed in ways that replenish and rejuvenate during seasons of joy, busyness, and everything life throws at us. And yes, adventure can be rest. Adventure is rest. And you are allowed to rest. You are allowed to exhale. Mini adventures can recharge your mind and body while giving you clarity and building self-trust.

The Weight I Didn’t Notice I Was Carrying and the Need for Rest

self care

Far too often, I go, go, go — and then bam, it hits me out of nowhere. I’m helping one child with a school project, attending extracurricular activities, advising my older young adult on real-life situations, all while trying to take care of myself. I feel tired, yet I get decent sleep. I fuel my body with eat healthy foods, yet my body is starving. I do the workouts, yet the energy still isn’t there. You’d think I’d learn by now what to do and what not to do and when to stop. But I will always be a work in progress, and so will you. This is the reality of just being human.

The Moment I Listened to My Body

adventure is rest

While I could say it took some quiet reflection at the end of my day for me to realize, “Yep, I am spent,” that’s not what happened at all. In complete transparency, it took me moving from one task to the next in every area of my life until, for just a brief moment, I finally snapped – and at the most mundane moment of all. It made no sense. Anyone looking in my window would’ve been so confused as to why I lost it then.

And it was in that instant that I finally decided to listen to what my body was saying. Our bodies tell us more than our minds ever will. Yet, they are connected. The words filled my mind clearly: “Christine, enough is enough. We are taking a break.” That break began immediately — and it will continue as a gift to myself in intentional, periodic moments throughout the year.

It may sound silly to write it this way, but these signals from our bodies are worth noticing. They either give you permission to live fully and embrace all the adventures – big or small – throughout your days, or they let life beat your body and mind down until there’s nothing left to give to yourself or others.

Mini-Adventure for Rest

mindset

Too often, we try to escape life’s stressors, searching for an outlet or a sense of freedom. I know — I used to be one of those people, until I invested in myself through mentorship and learned ways to create a continuous life of peace, joy, and fulfillment. Adventures don’t have to be big, glamorous, expensive, or even a trip to Bali to be valuable, important, or necessary. In fact, the definition of adventure can vary from person to person.

That’s why I decided on a near-term mini-adventure to Cape Charles for just two nights. I don’t need a week-long escape to refill my cup. Two nights with North by my side is enough to reset my mind and body. Cape Charles is close to home, quiet, and exactly what I need to create the pause I’ve been craving.

What I’m Hoping to Release

adventure

On this trip, I’m hoping to find rest, reset, and a bit of closure for the things that have been weighing heavily on my body. It will be a quiet adventure. Have you ever experienced one? No noise. No adrenaline. Just a quiet adventure: journaling, beach walks with North, playful moments, and coffee in the yard surrounded by Mother Nature. Sometimes it takes stepping out of your own head and into the natural world to truly reset the mind and body. Ignoring the noise for just a couple of days can be surprisingly powerful.

What I’m Open to Receiving

I am open to gaining clarity, deepening my self-trust, and learning to give myself these pauses more often. Life has a way of knocking us out of the park all at once. Even though I know what I need to do, sometimes it feels like there’s no room to just exhale. So yes — I am open to doing this more intentionally, to scheduling these resets for myself on purpose. I trust that I will leave feeling relieved, joyful, and with renewed energy to continue moving forward on this aligned path. There will be no rushed moments, no schedules to attend to, no must-dos or checklists to monitor. It will be just North and me, in complete serenity.

Are You Ready for an Adventure in Rest?

Adventure in rest

If you’re ready for an adventure in rest, I invite you to do the same — or something similar. Find a simple routine, activity, or place where you can decompress, connect with yourself, and reclaim clarity, self-trust, and permission to reset whenever you need it. It’s so easy to get swept up in the daily grind. But living on autopilot, I know, does not lead to a fully aligned, adventurous life filled with joy, fun, and happiness. It starts with you. Give yourself the gift of a mini-adventure filled with self-love, and make your next adventure in rest the best one yet!

If you love to journal as I do, feel free to complete this sentence:
“If I gave myself permission to rest, I would…”
Let that answer guide your next step.

If adventure can be rest, what would a quiet mini-adventure look like for you right now?
Would it be – A morning alone. A weekend away. A walk with your dog…?
Share in the comments where you will experience your adventure in rest next—I’d love to hear.
