The Best Mother’s Day Hike – Dark Hollow Falls, SNP

Dark Hollow Falls

Dark Hollows Falls, SNP

Dark Hollow Falls is about a 20-minute drive into the Shenandoah National Park, entering on the Front Royal side, Route 211. Driving to Dark Hollow Falls has several overlooks for you to stop and take in the views. They are breathtaking and worth every single stop along the way. Dark Hollow Falls is approximately a total distance of 3.2 miles round trip (out and back). It should be noted that dogs are not allowed on this hike. There are some narrow paths on parts of the trail, and truly, it’s to keep both humans and dogs safe.

It makes for an easy day hike. Consider wearing either hiking shoes or a shoe with a good grip. The hike downhill can be slippery, especially if it’s rained the night prior. There are some rocky areas throughout the hike, so you must also be careful hiking down. The views are gorgeous throughout the hike. There are many inlets that you can go off to get a closer look at the stream of water and all its beauty surrounding it.

The Final Destination of Dark Hollow Falls

Food to the Face Time

After a semi-strenuous hike back up, it was time to feed our faces. Graciously, my friend packed us all a nice picnic lunch for this hike. Once we finished hiking, we drove back down skyline drive looking for somewhere to ‘camp out’ for a bit and enjoy some lunch. We landed upon this nice picnic area with a beautiful view as the background. It wasn’t overly crowded and was perfect for us. Overall, this was a great day. A great hike. Great women. Memories for a lifetime.

Three generations of women!

I hope this post inspires you to get outside with those you love, share in these moments, and create your own memories.
