Finding Alignment in the Noise: How to Live Authentically

Living Authentically

When Life Feels Loud, and You Feel Lost

Have you ever noticed that it can be hard to stay aligned in what you’re trying to do when someone is talking in the background, the TV is on in one room, and music is playing on the Alexa in another room? It can be so hard to keep focused in those moments—or when you’re feeling stuck and unsure of your path. This is exactly what it feels like to try to find alignment in the noise of your life.

The Weight of Doing Everything and Feeling Nothing

Living Authentically

You’re juggling everything but feel like you’re doing nothing. Progress feels small. Hope feels far in the distance. Those dreams of yours? They feel non-existent. Are they even real? Are they yours to dream or someone else’s?

When we are traveling down a path that doesn’t align with who we are, our values, and our purpose, we can find ourselves drowning in the noise. Unsure which way to turn. Self-doubt creeps in, challenging our self-trust and personal growth. We start experiencing that FOMO—the fear of missing out. We try everything under the sun to feel more happiness, success, or see the bank account increase. Yet, we still feel stuck, unsure, unhappy, and lost.

I’m here to tell you that you are anything but those feelings. They are only temporary, like the tide rising and falling. When you are living out of alignment with your true blessings, passion, or calling, these feelings intensify. The noise that was once all around you lives inside you, and you can’t simply shut the door on it. It becomes an overwhelming feeling of just plain ugh.

Our lives aren’t meant to be meh or laissez-faire. We were put here to create, be joyful, experience the good and the bad, experiment, pivot, push our own limiting beliefs, and live authentically, embodying who we really are. You were put here to shine your light on others—whatever that may look like for you.

Comparison versus Calling

Living Authentically

I share all of this from personal experience as someone who once felt stuck and unhappy. I checked all the boxes, yet those feelings were still there. Externally, I appeared happy and content. Life couldn’t be any better. But what we don’t address on the inside eventually seeps into every aspect of our lives.

Through much inner work and the guidance of a mentor, I was able to break down the old beliefs and stories keeping me from living in alignment. I realized I had been searching for happiness and success in places that weren’t mine. From trying MLM (multi-level marketing) after MLM, selling things I had zero interest in, making decisions based on someone else’s flavor of happiness, taking vacations beyond my budget—all while comparing myself to “Samantha over there.”

Comparison steals your peace. It makes you forget your own authentic path. Finding alignment in the noise restores it. It builds self-trust, confidence, and a sense of being.

What Was Always There

Alignment and Mindset

Through much inner work, I discovered that writing is my passion. Looking back, I realized writing had always been part of my life—from poetry in high school to journaling as a teenager and young adult. I love expressing my creativity through thoughtful notes, cards, and written reflections. Writing has become my way to live authentically and in alignment with my true self.

Pause and Reflect: Start Finding Your Alignment

Mindset

I’ve put together a reflection worksheet to help you get started noticing where the noise shows up in your life—and where alignment might be calling you. While it’s not all-inclusive, it’s a great starting point to think about:

  • Where am I feeling off-track or overwhelmed?
  • What parts of my life feel aligned with my values and purpose?
  • Where am I living according to someone else’s standards?
  • What small steps can I take today to reconnect with my authentic self?

Remember, living in alignment isn’t about anyone else and their painted portrait—it’s yours. And only yours.
